Goodbye BBQ, Say Hello to Electric! The Best Electric Smokers on the Market
While some purists may scoff at the idea of an electric smoker, it’s important to remind ourselves that hobby smoking isn’t the same as competing. While we’re all striving for the best meat we can possibly craft, the occasional shortcut or helping hand isn’t the worst thing that’s happened to the world of BBQ. Just because some southern jerk turns his nose up at controlled temperatures doesn’t mean he’s right. In fact, it means he’s wrong.
Since you likely don’t live on an acreage in the Louisiana bayou, finding the time to build a smoker and build a fire likely isn’t a real possibility for you. ideally, we would all be operating this way, but the realities of life happen to get in the way sometimes. That’s okay! A great feed of smoked meat is great no matter what vehicle was used to deliver it. Don’t let some southern dandy tell you how to feel.
What makes electric smokers to great is two-fold: first, the temperature is controlled electronically. Some may deem that to be cheating, but it also makes life a lot easier for those of us who haven’t quite mastered the craft. Second, electric smokers are easy to use and easy to set up; the perfect match for those simply looking for some delicious meat.
While they can be a touch more expensive than a traditional smoker, that’s compensated for by making the whole process a whole hell of a lot easier. What’s more, you can still enjoy a few cold beers while the smoking process is taking place, ensuring you look like the southern boss you’ve always dreamed of being; without the geographical pretension, of course.
Each of the smokers we decided to look at today comes from a reliable company who has mastered the art of offering quality products for fair prices. We’re not going to get into anything too elaborate or large either, as these are smokers that should be able to fit in any backyard or on any patio.
These are for the beginner and the hobbyist, those looking for great meat and a great time. While smoking meat is a labour of love, it doesn’t mean you have to watch over it like a newborn baby. There are still plenty of step and trials and tribulations you’ll have to go through to get your meat just how you like it.
The three electric smokers we’ve chosen here are new models, updated to handle any sort of meat you can throw at ‘em. All of them have adequate space for multiple meats and won’t take a lot of know-how to get going. These are a great way to get started smoking, and can potentially be the gateway drug you’ve been looking for all this time. We’ve compiled our list of the best electric smokers on the market for you to peruse, and without further ranting, here they are.the
Best Electric Smokers
Masterbuilt 20070910 30-Inch Black Electric Digital Smoker, Top Controller
The first electric smoker we wanted to talk about is the black 30” model from Masterbuilt. This is a company that’s been around a long time and has proven over and over again that they will deliver a quality product at a fair price. This particular smoker is certainly no exception to that rule.
There are quite a few reasons we enjoyed this unit, so let’s share a couple of them: first, for a little over $150, we feel that this is a really great bang for your buck. Next, this smoker works very consistently and delivers an even smoke and temperature. Smoking can be difficult at times and having something that takes a lot of the guessing out of the equation makes things quite a bit easier for the beginner.
It’s got a great capacity within it as well, allowing for plenty of room for smoking. A lot of machines don’t offer a ton of space, so to be able to find something that has the ability to house up to 12 (!) whole chickens is quite impressive.
If you’re making your first foray into smoking and want something that’s easy to use and will deliver results, we suggest you look no further. This is a great smoker that will deliver great meat consistently. It’s not going to take up a ton of space either, so if you’re limited in that regard you needn’t worry.
Masterbuilt 20071117 30" Digital Electric Smoker
While this is largely the same model is the previous one from Masterbuilt, there are a few subtle differences. The first one is that this one is a little smaller, so if you’re really tight for space this is going to be your best bet. Second, is that the digital thermometer is located on top of the smoker here, making things quite convenient.
What this will do, like the other model, is provide you with a reliable smoker for all your delicious meats. As we said, these are machines that are going to deliver consistently delicious meats for you and all your friends, so long as you prepare things properly. This is also a great model to have if you’re just getting started and don’t want to break the bank on something bigger and better. If you’re not sure whether this is going to turn into a hobby or not, this is a great smoker to get your feet wet with and you can make up your mind from there.
Char-Broil Deluxe Digital Electric Smoker, 725 Square Inch
The last model we wanted to discuss, the deluxe model from Char-Broil, is the biggest and best of the three here. Naturally, that comes with a slightly higher price tag, but it’s not terribly prohibitive either. At a shade over $200 you won’t feel like you’re going to take for a ride by some faceless corporation.
Char-Broil, like Mastercraft, is a company that has been in the barbecue game for a long time and certainly knows how to provide a quality product for a fair price. at 725 square inches of capacity, you can get a lot of meat in here and expect it to be done consistently and easily. We had a great time with this smoker and expect similar results for anyone who goes on to purchase it.
If you’re looking for a slight upgrade in quality for not that much money in your electric smoker, this is a great smoker to go with. It’s easy to use, smokes meat just the way you want it to, and won’t crush your wallet. All in all, a fine way to go for any person.
