Swing Sets for Large Yards
Having the space to put any swing set in your yard can be a blessing. Obviously, not having to worry about the dimensions of the swing set you’re about to buy makes that purchase quite a bit easier. The issue that comes along with that is that the larger you go in size the price tends to grow along with it. Sure, having the biggest set on the market would be ideal but not everyone has the wallet or the stomach to make that purchase. So how do you go about finding a large swing set that doesn’t break the bank but will keep the kids occupied? Well that’s the question we intend on answering today.
There are clearly a lot of sets out there that run the gamut from terrible to great, and cheap to expensive. We didn’t come here to recommend anything that’s terrible, but we are always on the lookout for great deals and products that have value. The three sets we chose to look at all come in at an affordable price. That’s still a good chunk of change, but if you’ve ever looked around you’ll know that things can get quite a bit more expensive than that. We also chose three sets to look at that aren’t eyesores, and while being reasonably large aren’t going to take up 75% of your large backyard. There are limits to these sorts of things. No one wants to look at the crow’s nest of their children’s play set instead of the setting sun.
Finally, each of these sets offers something a little different and will be able to suit the discriminating tastes of any child. You’ll be able to find something here that won’t break the bank, will suit your large yard, and be able to keep your children happy for hours on end. Not the easiest tasks in the world, but we like we hit the nail on the head. With that in mind, here are the best swing sets for large yards.
The first swing set we wanted to take a look at was this model from Flexible Flyer. What we immediately liked about this one is the colour scheme. The bright green and steel grey is a nice departure from wooden sets or what you would typically see in other backyards. The second piece that caught our attention was the sheer number of playing options this swing set has. Not only does it come with a couple swings but there is a glider, monkey bars, a large slide, as well as a see-saw. It will be able to have a large number of kids playing on it at once, which will keep the fighting to a minimum at the fun at a maximum level.
What we came to appreciate after a few spins on this swing set is the quality materials that went into crafting it. Not every swing set out there is built with exacting specifications, leaving quite a bit to be desired. It can hold over 1000 lbs., which says a lot about the quality of design and materials. Should you be looking for a set that has a great many options for your kids as well as something that can take a real beating and keep coming back than this is the one for you. A fine addition to any backyard that has the space to house it.
The second swing set we took a look at is this model from Sportspower. What you’ll immediately notice about this set, aside from the fun colour combinations, is the interesting options that accompany the swings. It’s the first time we had ever seen a small trampoline as an addition to a swing set. This will be a real hit with the kids and saves you from potentially shelling out for a larger trampoline. The other aspect of this swing set we liked was “flying saucer” swing. This is a great option for a couple of kids at once to go for a ride and have a ball. It’s a fairly simple machine, but kids will enjoy having it as an alternative to the traditional swings.
This swing set was also made with superior materials meaning that you can trust it to be able to take a beating and stay standing. It’s been built with two-inch heavy-duty weather resistant tubes and hardware as well as a being given a powder-coated finish to stave off rust. This swing set offers something quite different than every other model out there and for that reason alone should be considered. Paired with superior quality and durability as well as a fun look and this becomes a fantastic option for all those with a voice.
The last swing set we took a look at is another from Flexible Flyer. While this particular set doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that the other two do, it makes up for that by being the most reasonably priced. It’s a great option for those that are a little more cost-conscious. It comes with two swings, a trapeze bar, and a slide. You can also rely on its durability and quality as it is from a brand that we associate with those two features. It won’t take up a ton of room in the backyard either, meaning that there is still plenty of space for other toys and play things for the kids.
It may not be the sexiest swing set on the market, but this model does everything that it’s asked of and will stand the test of time. For a family who doesn’t have the money to spend hundreds or thousands on a large swing set, this is a fine alternative and one that will still keep the kids entertained for hours on end. It doesn’t have to be the biggest and the best to grab their attention as long as it does its job and stays standing.
Vinyl Swing Sets
We have recently spoken about and reviewed plastic and cedar swing sets. We like what both of these setups bring to the table, and there’s something for everyone in those two makeups. Since we’ve done that, we thought it to be important to look at all the types of swing sets on the market, which leads up to where we are today: vinyl swing sets.
The sets we chose to look at are of a higher quality than the others we have reviewed so far, and with that comes a higher price tag. That said, though, these are truly fantastic swing sets that kids the world over will enjoy. These sets come with all the bells and whistles and if you have the deep pockets that it will take to purchase, your children will love you forever (they probably will anyway, but this will only serve to cement that).
On top of all that, vinyl has a few more benefits for parents as well. First off, vinyl is very easy to clean. Wiping the swing set down after a wet day, bird droppings, or an unfortunate incident has occurred is a lot easier on vinyl than it is on cedar or any other type of wood. Second, vinyl tends to be a little softer so the sets have some give to them. Kids can get reckless out there and having at least a small backboard for their spills offers some peace of mind.
With all of that said, let’s take a look at the three sets we liked best. Each provides something a little different than the other, and all three come in at different price points and sizes. Some of these may require a handy touch, so be sure to look into that before taking the plunge.
Multi-Level Design Sandy Cove Wooden Swing Set
The first set we wanted to look at was this beauty from Big Backyard. While the whole swing set isn’t constructed from vinyl, a few choice pieces are. This set also comes with a number of fun things for the kids to do. On top of the swings, there’s a slide, a sandbox, a rock-climbing wall, and a few other fun features. The kids will be able to kill hours playing on this, going from one piece of the set to another. It also has a small space above the slide that kids can treat as a “clubhouse” or sorts. Fun for them to get away and have their own space.
For the parents, this set isn’t overly large so it will be able to fit even in modestly sizes yards. The set up won’t be too strenuous either, meaning that even if you’re not the handiest of person that it should be within your skill set. Will this set isn’t what we would consider to be “cheap,” it’s not terribly expensive either. With all of these things to consider, this set strikes a fine balance between affordable, fun, and practical for all members of the family. This is a great vinyl swing set to get started with.
GO Fun Vinyl Swingset
The second set we chose to look at is this fine number from GO Fun. What sets this set apart from the other two we’re discussing today is the quality of the parts. Not only are all the pieces made of vinyl, but the nuts and bolts, as it were, are made of stainless steal. While it may not contain all of the fun pieces that the other two sets do, it more than makes up for it with quality and sturdiness. This set also comes with a two-year warranty, ensuring that things will be taken care of should something go wrong in that time frame.
GO Fun Vinyl Swingset
The set comes with swings, a large slide, a climbing ladder, and a trapeze bar. The other part of this swing set that is quite unique is that fact that each swing can handle up to 200 lbs. This with allow some parents to hop on with their kids and recapture a little piece of their childhood. You’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t think that hopping on a swing every now and then would be a complete ball.
Those looking for something unique and versatile for themselves and their kids would really enjoy it. The set up won’t be too difficult either, making for a potentially fun afternoon with a few cold beverages.
Gorillaplay Sets Home Backyard Playground
The last set we chose to look at, from Gorillaplay, has pretty much everything a kid could ever want. This set comes with all the bells and whistles and packs in almost every fun activity you could think of on one swing set. Along with the swings, this set has a rock-climbing wall with climbing rope, two slides- one of which twists and turns, a large “clubhouse” type area with a canopy to provide cover, a picnic table, entry ladder, tic-tac-toe panel, sandbox, “telescope,” and a steering wheel. Like I said, this thing comes with pretty much everything you could possibly think of.
Gorillaplay Sets Home Backyard Playground
With that, however, comes a fairly hefty price tag. This set isn’t going to be a possibility for everyone, but that’s to be expected when you see what is attached. The set up time isn’t too strenuous, though. With an estimated build time of 8-10 hours it should only take a day, and if you can get enough people together you should be able to get it up even quicker than that.
This is a truly fantastic set that provides everything a kid could ever want. While it isn’t cheap or all that small, if you can bring this bad boy home you’ll be the apple of your kids’ eye for as long as they can still play on it. Snap this set up if you have the opportunity to do so, as it’s one of the best we’ve come across in all our time.
While metal swingsets may not offer that woodsy look you want in your backyard, they are often a smaller and more space-efficient version of their wooden counterparts. A metal swingset provides all the things kids want out of it, while giving you less headaches along the way. They’re typically a little easier to set up and have a lot less parts than a wooden one. If you’re not the handiest person on earth, then the metal set just might be up your alley.
We thought we would do our best to present a few alternatives to the wooden playsets and swingsets we’ve been reviewing recently. As I mentioned, they are often a lot easier to set up (this does have something to do with the fact that they often have a few less bells and whistles) as well as being a lot easier on the wallet. Today we took a look at three different metal swingsets that each provide something a little different for your kids’ fun. None of these are going to break the bank either, all coming in at under $200. Whether you’re looking for something small and efficient, or something with a few more bits of flair, we’ve got you covered down below.
Flexible Flyer "World Of Fun" Swing Set
The first set we chose to look at is this model from Flexible Flyer, called their “World of Fun.” This is a nice set for a few reasons, the first being that it has a number of different pieces to play on. This not only offers a little variety, but can keep your kids busy for hours being able to try the different offerings. Aside from the swingset itself, this particular set offers a large slide, a see-saw, a trapeze swing, and something they call a “rocket rider,” which looks kind of like an elongated swing (which is great for toddlers).
Flexible Flyer World Of Fun Swing Set
The other part about this set we enjoyed, and this will become something of a theme, is that is can be had for a touch over $150. This makes it affordable for a lot of people. It keeps the kids happy and doesn’t force you to overspend. This set isn’t overly large either, so if you don’t happen to have an expansive yard this one will still make sense. That paired with the fact that it won’t be terribly difficult to set up and you really have yourself a bargain here. It’ll be fun, easy, and inexpensive. I don’t think you could ask for more.
Flexible Flyer "Triple Fun" Swing Set
The next set we chose to look at, also from Flexible Flyer, is called the “Triple Fun” swingset. While this one may not have quite as many bells and whistles as the last set it provides the necessities everyone needs for a very fair price. It’s not the sexiest set on the market but that shouldn’t dissuade anyone from considering it. If you’re looking for a swingset that will provide hours of fun and perform the function for which it was purchased than this one is still a great set.
Flexible Flyer Triple Fun Swing Set
This set, like the previous one, also comes in at a shade over $150 dollars so it’s not going to hurt too much upon purchase. The major difference here is that this is a smaller set, so if you do happen to be very short on yard space this is going to be your best bet. It should also be a very simple setup, one that even the least handy of men could handle in an afternoon with a few cold ones. Again, this set may not be the prettiest thing that you unbox this year, but it will more than handle the duties it is supposed to. A fine set for a fine price is always something we can get behind.
Flexible Flyer Triple Fun II Metal Swing Set
Lastly, we have the “Triple Fun II” set from the venerable Flexible Flyer. It’s fairly similar to the previous set, but with a few small additions. One of the things we really came to appreciate was the vinyl coverings for the chains on the swings. This doesn’t seem like much, but it prevents quite a few pinched fingers that will inevitably take place while swinging. Kids have been known to get a bit reckless out there, which makes the extra bit of protection a real bonus.
The set includes all the staples, like swings, a slide, and a see-saw. It’s also not the prettiest model out there, but will be more than sufficient. With a metal fame and plastic accompaniments, it’s going to be quite durable as well. Durability makes a huge difference as you don’t want to be buying these sorts of things summer after summer.
Flexible Flyer Triple Fun II Metal Swing Set
Finally, this set, like the other two, comes in at a shade over $150 so it won’t break the bank. It’s probably the second best set here in that it will also be easy to set up and won’t take up a ton of space. All things considered, this is a fine set that won’t really hurt the budget, setting up, and taking up space. All in all, a fine set for a good price.
Wooden Swing Sets
It’s another beautiful weekend and you have nothing to do. Your kids are starting to go stir crazy and you can’t seem to muster the energy to take them to the zoo, or a park, or some such. Common problem, I’ve heard. What do you do when all you want to do is hang out in your backyard with a cold one and enjoy the sun while it lasts?
Generally speaking, since I don’t have kids, I wouldn’t be able to provide an answer for you. Kids can sometimes be simple creatures, sometimes not. When it comes to entertaining themselves they typically don’t need anything too elaborate, merely something that allows them to expel some of that boundless energy. And I think I have found the answer- something that lets your kids run around for hours and gives you the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely Saturday afternoon with a few adult beverages.
I’ve recently been awakened by the wonders of the simple swing set. They don’t look like much to see and they certainly haven’t changed all that much over the years, but it’s their enduring ability to tire out kids that has withstood the test of time. Even with screen time on the rise, the good old swing set can still capture the attention of any child who has some energy to rid themselves of.
Even though the use of a swing set hasn’t changed, where things have change is in the quality of construction and the safety involved. Things are a lot different than when you and I were kids and everything was built of cold steel and splintery wood. Now a days, these bad boys are built of finer, non-splintery, materials and actually take into consideration the safety of your child. A novel concept to be sure.
Today we wanted to go over the best wooden swing sets on the market, and what makes them such an effective tool for parents and kids. Each one of these sets, although they’re from the same company, provide something a little different and each are at a different price point. Depending on the size of your yard and the attention span of your children, you’ll want to consider all the aspects in choosing the right one for your family and yard.
With that in mind, here are the best wooden swing sets for your yard and kids. It always has been and always will be the best method for parents to wear down their rambunctious little gaffers when a frosty pint is looming.
Backyard Discovery Dayton All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set
The first one we chose to look at is the Dayton model from Backyard Discovery (note: all three sets here are from Backyard Discovery, as previously mentioned). This is going to be the simplest and least expensive of the three options here. This isn’t the most elaborate model, as you’ll see from the two subsequent swing sets that some of the sets on the market these days come with quite a few bells and whistles.
What this set does have, however, is swings that function as you would expect them too as well as a small slide and a rock-climbing wall/ladder. It’s by no means the prettiest set out there, but it will get the job done and provides enough options to keep your kids entertained for hours. If you don’t have the space in your yard for something the size of the Titanic or a wallet to match, this is a fine set that won’t take you too long to set up on your own. It’s fun, sturdy, and a solid purchase for those who aren’t looking to break the bank.
Backyard Discovery Weston All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set
Next on down the line is the Weston swing set, again, from Backyard Discovery. This is going be your middle option model of the three we’re going to be discussing today. It doesn’t have all the sizzle of the third option, but it does offer a few more fun and playful elements than the first one we looked at.
The Weston, like the Dayton, has the swings as you would expect them as well as a slide and a slightly larger rock-climbing wall/ladder. What this set offers that the first one doesn’t, though, is that the slide is a little higher up (still safe) as well as a small bench and what they are calling a “snack-stand.” It’s by no means a necessity, nor does it really bring anything to the table you would miss by purchasing a different model.
This is a solid model, and could be perceived as a little more fun than the previous set. If you have a couple hundred extra bucks to spend it may be worth it to keep your kids happy, but I don’t view it as something you need to do. Both sets are perfectly acceptable.
Backyard Discovery Montpelier All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set
The last set we chose to look at from Backyard Discovery is the Montpelier model. You can tell by the vaguely French inspired name that this set is for those looking for something a better. And to its credit, this swing set does bring more to the table than the two we have already discussed.
Where does it differ, you ask? Well let me tell you. This swing set boasts a boogie-board inspired swing, as well as a clubhouse type deal on the top of the structure. There’s a larger ladder and some short monkey bars here as well. What’s more, it still has all the other features of the previous two sets, including a full swing set, an eight-foot slide, and all the related accoutrement. It’s the crème de la crème of swing sets.
Backyard Discovery Montpelier All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set
What all that amounts to is a much heftier price tag than the other two as well. To be expected, but you’re going to be paying over twice what you would for the first set and almost double what you would for the second set. While it’s not my job to tell you how to spend your money, know that this is a much more significant investment than the previous two to do roughly the same thing. It’s a lot larger as well, so you may run into problems setting it up if you have limited yard space.
This is a great set and will provide fun for hours for your energetic brood. It’s large and expensive, so be sure you know what you’re getting yourself into before you dive head first into this big guy.
